The Australian dollar (AUD) rebounded against the US dollar (USD) on Tuesday after the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) decided to keep the main interest rate at 3.85%.

After a 1% drop on Monday, the Australian Central Bank announcement provided a boost to the Australian dollar/dollar, with trading now approaching 0.6530.

Thirty-one of the 37 economists are expected to announce a third consecutive rate cut of 25 basis points on Tuesday, according to a Reuters survey released on Friday.

Amid these widely expected and roughly priced expectations, the market continues to digest the positive U.S. employment data released last Thursday.

As of now, a healthy labor market has enabled the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates between 4.25% and 4.50%.

Recent non-farm employment data show that the U.S. labor market is healthy, reducing market expectations for the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut in July.

The higher demand for U.S. yields is positive for the difference in yields between Australia and the United States.

However, the Australian Reserve Bank's unexpected hawkish move became a bullish trigger for the AUD/USD on Tuesday.

AUD/USD is focusing on the 0.6550 resistance level, with gold crossing supporting a wider upward trend

AUD/USD is currently moving towards the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level in the September-April selling range, providing a resistance of about 0.6550.The price is still in the rising wedge on the daily chart.

The rejection of the psychological resistance below 0.6600 last week and the rising wedge increased expectations of a bearish reversal. However, positive momentum is still supported by the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages (EMA), currently at 0.6475 and 0.6436, respectively.

These moving averages form a golden cross (a bullish technical pattern formed when the 50-day EMA crosses the 200-day EMA), indicating a larger upward trend.

The relative strength index (RSI) is 54, indicating that neutral kinetic energy is slightly biased towards positive.

If you can continue to break through and stay above the EMA and test the 0.6600 integer mark, you may form a target pointing to the November highs of 0.6689 and the 78.6% retracement level of 0.6722.

However, if the wedge support below about 0.6372, it will be a major change in the market structure and the price will face the risk of further downward to the 0.6200 area.
