The Swiss Franc (CHF) rose slightly against the US dollar (USD) on Friday as fiscal and trade concerns re-drive demand for safe-haven currencies.
The US dollar/Schwanstein rate fell as investors weighed the long-term effects of the newly signed “Beautiful Great Act” and the upcoming July 9 tariff deadline that threatened to reignite market volatility.
The signing ceremony will be held at the White House on Friday. The tax and spending bill raises the U.S. debt ceiling by a staggering $5 trillion, despite President Trump celebrating the passage of legislation. While this helps avoid a short-term government funding crisis, it significantly increases long-term federal borrowing.
The bill is expected to increase the U.S. budget deficit by about $3.3 trillion over the next decade, about $1 trillion more than the previous version passed by the House of Representatives.
The increasing deficit and debt burden put pressure on investor sentiment towards the dollar.
The increase in government debt has raised concerns about long-term fiscal sustainability and inflation risks. This erosion of confidence may lead to selling pressure on the US dollar, especially for low-yield safe-haven currencies such as the Swiss franc.
At the same time, tariff-related tensions are rekindling market tensions. As the July 9 deadline approaches, President Trump has suggested that formal letters on new trade terms will be sent to foreign governments as early as possible.
Treasury Secretary Scott Besent failed to appease the market on Thursday, failing to confirm whether the government would postpone the tariff deadline, saying only “We will do what the president wants to do and he will decide whether they are negotiating in good faith.”

As a result, the U.S. dollar/CHF remains under moderate pressure, with traders remaining cautious ahead of next week's tariff developments and further clues about the U.S. fiscal trajectory.
The US dollar/CHF consolidates below 0.8000
The 4-hour chart shows that the US dollar/CHF price consolidates above 0.7940. The candlestick chart reflects hesitation due to insufficient liquidity during the U.S. Independence Day holiday.
Although the 20th period simple moving average (SMA) provides short-term support at 0.7927, the psychological threshold of 0.7950 acts as resistance.
After the US dollar/Schwanstein bulls pushed the price to Thursday's high of 0.7987, the bears quickly fought back and failed to break through the next key psychological threshold of 0.8000.
The relative strength index (RSI) is 48, reflecting that the momentum is still close to the neutral area in the short term.
On the upside, if it breaks through Thursday's high and breaks through 0.8000, the US dollar/CHF may rise to the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level that fell from May to July, close to 0.8015.
At the same time, if the dollar weakness continues, the dollar/CHF may retest Tuesday's multi-year low of 0.78722 if it falls below Thursday's low of 0.7900.
