On Friday, the Japanese Yen (JPY) strengthened against the pound (GBP), and the market became cautious by the weekend.
Friday's price movement was driven by increased demand for safe-haven demand as the pound/yen fell back on Thursday as the pound/yen failed to gain momentum at the psychologically important 198.00 level, as U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff deadline is July 9.
As of writing, GBP/JPY traded below the 10-day simple moving average (SMA), providing a short-term resistance of 197.61. Immediately support the psychological integer at 197.00, breaking through this level may trigger a deeper correction to the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level of 195.41 of the April-July uptrend.
GBP/Yen remains fragile in the context of broader macro fundamentals
British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer faces increasing scrutiny amid recent www.xmtraders.compromise on welfare and growing differences within the Labor Party on budget strategies and proposed spending cuts.
