Starting tomorrow, the gold and silver markets will experience violent fluctuations, especially the price of silver.
The Bloomberg www.xmtraders.commodity Index (BOCM) will continue to be rebalanced starting tomorrow, from January 9th to January 15th.
I will first talk about the logic of the annual balance of the index, and then talk about the impact on gold and silver prices.
The Bloomberg www.xmtraders.commodity Index is a global mainstream www.xmtraders.commodity benchmark index, which mainly includes six categories: energy, industrial metals, precious metals, grains, livestock and soft www.xmtraders.commodities.
In terms of weight: a single www.xmtraders.commodity cannot account for more than 15%, and is adjusted once a year. The weight calculation uses a mixed weight of 2/3 transaction flow, that is, liquidity, and 1/3 global output value.
Gold and silver have risen sharply in the past two years, with gold accounting for 20.4% and silver reaching 9.6%. This time gold has been reduced to 14.9% and silver has been halved to 3.94%.
What will be the impact after the adjustment? Silver is expected to have $7.7 billion in sales within two weeks, and gold is expected to see about $6-7 billion in sales. Selling size = total size of tracking funds
Why is there selling? The reason is that the tracking index is indexed, and the tracking funds will also be adjusted when the weight ratio is adjusted. This week’s rise in gold is mainly based on the impact of risk events. It rose slowly after jumping short and opening high on Monday. The strength and speed are not strong, indicating that the long-short game is still in a balance of power. The early gold and silver gains were too large and have not been corrected and adjusted in place. The sustainability of such an increase is not necessarily strong.
In addition, after yesterday’s reminder that US$4,500 fell back in the morning, the key point is to see the breakout of the long-short dividing point of 4455. After the loss here, the US market will definitely be short to 4430-20 US dollars. This was clearly emphasized in the internal live broadcast last night. The 4480 long-short dividing point was used as a defensive point to short gold. Those who listened to the live broadcast should only be grateful.
The overall market is now fluctuating at a high level and is still in a wait-and-see mode. Although there was a decline last night, it did not continue. The price fluctuated downward with pressure of $4480. It may be waiting for the index weight adjustment. No one wants to take the knife at this time. Today my view is to follow the pullback and be bearish, using 4480 as the stop-loss defense area. The next stop for breaking down to 4430 is 4410-4406 US dollars. Only a decent adjustment can pave the way for a real bull market in 2026, otherwise the prosperity will surely decline.
